Choose a Transducer
How to choose a transducer?
Each model has a different type of transducer which is designed with different cone angles and works better on certain types of boat.
Fibreglass boats work best when installed in the hull.
Beam transducers are best suited to hull plans up to 28 feet.
Hull mounted transducers work well on sailing boats with low resistance.
External transducer mounting protrudes from the hull and requires a fairing block attachment for best results in targeting the sonar beam. Best when used on larger sized non-towed boats.
The wider the angle of the transducer cone, the larger the area covered by the beam.
The deeper the water, the more sensitive the beam will be and the poorer the quality will be.
The transducer cone ranges from 9 degrees to greater than 60 degrees. A typical transducer is between 16 and 20 degrees of angle. If you intend to fish in a variety of water depths, the best angle is a transducer with a 20 degree cone angle.
